(1) Packaging: Rongalite is packaged in iron drums lined with polyethylene bags (the bag openings must be double-tied). The iron drums must be tightly sealed with a thickness of no less than 0.7 mm. The net weight per drum is 50 kg, unless otherwise specified.
(2) Sodium Hydrosulfite Transportation: Drums must not be inverted or subjected to impact. During transportation, protect the product from moisture, rain, and direct sunlight.
(3) Sodium Hydrosulfite Storage: Store in a well-ventilated, dry, and cool warehouse. Avoid direct sunlight, keep away from heat sources, and prevent direct contact with water or steam. Do not store together with oxidizing agents or other flammable materials.
(4) Toxicity: Rongalite itself is a non-toxic chemical and was recognized as a safe substance by the US FDA around 1968. However, it decomposes to release sulfur dioxide (SO₂), which is a toxic gas. Prevent thermal decomposition during storage.
(5) Hazard Classification: Rongalite is a Class II water-reactive substance. In the presence of moisture and air, it can react exothermically, leading to combustion. When heated above 90°C, it decomposes rapidly, releasing large amounts of sulfur dioxide, whether in a moist or dry atmosphere. Decomposition in a confined space can increase pressure and cause container rupture.
(6) Sodium Hydrosulfite Fire Fighting: Do not use water to extinguish Rongalite fires, except with large quantities of water applied to cool and dilute. Preferred extinguishing agents are dry powder or dry sand. When fighting fires, wear SO₂ gas masks for respiratory protection.
